Generally speaking, “hemp” includes varieties of cannabis sativa that contain minimal amounts of the cannabinoid that gets you high: THC. Specifically, these low THC varieties are what we know as industrial hemp and is grown for it’s fibers and seeds, not it’s flowers.

Whether hemp or marijuana – for practical purposes the popular cannabinoids THC and CBD are contained in the flowers we all bought $20 at a time from some the skater kid in high school. For our purposes with Muscle Goo’s Hemp Extract product, we are only interested in hemp seeds and hemp seed extract. Most hemp seeds and derivatives come from a strain called Finola that is short in stature and produces a ton of seeds.

While China is the largest producer of hemp fiber in the world, our hemp seed extract is certified organic and imported from our friends up north in Canada. Canadian’s have been cultivating since 2015 and have more than 80,000 acres federally licensed for commercial, non recreational hemp.

Why is Hemp Seed Extract great?

As with anything the FDA hasn’t given their stamp of approval, making claims about all the benefits can be tricky. Additionally, science still has a lot to learn about hemp in general but especially the cannabinoids  CBD and THC. That aside, we do know that hemp seeds contain a downright incredible amount of fats, protein and minerals. Taking a lot at all the good stuff found in hemp seeds provides some validation to all the anecdotes and experiences we all read about the benefits.
